FAQ

Is Umbu tax advice?

No. Umbu is accounting software. It makes proposals you confirm and shows general tax notes from public sources. For your personal tax situation, talk to your fiduciary.

Does Umbu file my tax return?

No. Umbu prepares a draft and the documents. You review everything and file it with the tax office yourself.

Where is my data stored?

The Security page states only what is true today. Google Cloud belongs to a US group; the wording is on the Security page.

Who reads my documents?

Photos and scans are read by Scaleway (France) in Paris. QR-bills and PDFs with a text layer are read locally. Documents with an AHV number or payroll data are entered in a form.

Which companies is Umbu for?

Companies based in Switzerland: GmbH, AG and sole proprietorships, using the effective VAT method, the net tax rate or no VAT. Umbu is not yet available for the canton of Ticino.

What happens after the trial?

You pick a plan and pay by TWINT, card or, for a yearly plan, by QR-bill. If you don't, the trial ends; your data stays readable and exportable.

What counts as a page?

Every page that has to be read: photos and scanned PDFs. QR-bills and PDFs with a text layer don't count.

What if I use up an allowance?

You keep booking. New photos are stored and read when the next month starts or when you buy a pack. Manual entry always works.

What happens to my documents if I cancel?

Nothing is deleted. You keep read access to your archive and can export everything for the 10-year legal retention period (CO 958f).

Can I export my data?

Yes, everything as a ZIP (documents, journal, year-end files, logs), readable without Umbu, up to twice a day.

How do I pay?

By TWINT or card, monthly or yearly. Yearly plans can also be paid by QR-bill.

Can I change plans?

Yes. Upgrades apply immediately, prorated. Downgrades apply from the next period. Stored documents are kept in full.

Umbu is accounting software. Umbu does not provide tax, legal or fiduciary advice. Tax notes are general information from public sources; you review and decide, and you remain responsible for your books and your tax return.
